As per the UGC (University Grants Commission) guidelines, the Academic Council is one of the key bodies in an autonomous college in India. The Academic Council plays a crucial role in the academic functioning of the institution. Some of the key roles and responsibilities of the Academic Council in an autonomous college are:

 

  • Curriculum development: The Academic Council is responsible for the development and revision of the curriculum of the institution. This includes designing and updating courses and programs in line with current trends and requirements.
  •  Academic regulations: The Academic Council is responsible for the formulation and revision of academic regulations, including admission criteria, evaluation and examination procedures, and grading systems. Academic council prepares Academic Calendar before new academic sessions.
  • Quality assurance: The Academic Council is responsible for ensuring the quality of education and academic standards of the institution. This includes monitoring and evaluating the performance of faculty members, departments, and programs.
  • Research and development: The Academic Council is responsible for promoting and supporting research and development activities in the institution. This includes encouraging faculty members to undertake research projects and organizing conferences and seminars to promote academic exchange.
  •  Faculty development: The Academic Council is responsible for promoting the professional development of faculty members. This includes organizing training programs, workshops, and seminars to enhance their teaching and research skills.
