The Department of English started as a core department with the establishment of the college in 1952. Major (Honours) in English was introduced just after the college premises shifted to the present location in 1966. The department has been steadily advancing towards success and perfection ever since its inception, and has started M. A. in English from the session 2021- 22 with a view to offering research programme in the near future.

MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

To help the students acquire the ability to examine, evaluate, appreciate or to criticize and follow the inspiring deeds and wisdom of the great writers of the world and to apply the same in real-life situations so that the world they live in can be transformed into an earthly paradise by leaving their footprints in the sand of life. 

VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

To create a citizenry who are able to speak and write with eloquence and clarity. To motivate them to acquire the soft skills indispensable for effective communications during their academic life and practical as well as corporate dealings after attaining their academic dreams. Further to administer the spirit of critical enquiry and reasoning into the minds of the students and to help them develop a creative perspective of the world.
