Research

Although North Lakhimpur College is not a recognized research centre, over the years the College is able to develop important infrastructure for providing research facilities to its faculty and students. In fact, a sophisticated “Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory” was established in the year 2008 as part of Post B.Sc. Diploma Course in Plant Tissue Culture and Micropropagation. The laboratory is well equipped with some costly instruments like BOD incubator, Laminar Air Flow Bench, UV-VIS spectrophotometer, Deep freezer etc. The College has also established a “Complete Weather Station Unit” along with some instruments like GPS, Anemometer, Dumpy level – 2, Prismatic Compass etc. As the area, where the College is situated, is rich in medicinal plants showing diverse bio-diversity, the College has set up an ethnobotanic garden with shade house. Moreover, some other departments like Zoology has also initiated in developing muga seeds by culturing muga silk worms in the College Sericulture garden. The college also has a well equipped state of the art Ethernet laboratory with IBM-X Server with open source OS server- Linux which is connected to broadband. The College library has separate reference / periodical section for ready reference. Each research guide and project investigator has been allowed to use their department laboratory. The College has also received grant from DST under FIST programme as well as from UGC under Basic Science Resarch Development scheme to renovate its existing infrastructure and other research facilities in science departments. The College has acquired sophisticated equipments like Bacteriological Chamber, Digital BOD incubators, Rotary Microtome, Deep freezer, Hot air oven, Distillation Unit, Laminar Flow, GPS, Soil and Water testing kit, Kjedahl distillation plant, shaking machine, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, Muffle Furnace, Anderson Bridge with head phone & oscillator, Craft’s trinocular research Microscope with 35mm SLR camera for microphotography, Fume Hood etc. through the DST and UGC funding. The aim of developing research through in house publications, internal research projects, seminars, symposia and workshops will be fulfilled through the CPE assistance in the next two years.
